2018: Purulia: 12″

The Chau sculptors of Bengal who are famous for their masks follow a form of paper mache that uses layers of paper and very thin fabric to make beautiful and intricate forms. This technique is also used for larger idols during the Durga Puja festival – it uses only completely natural materials and pigments. The white and red combination which is typical of Bengal makes this Purulia Vigraha idol stand out distinctly from the Maharashtrian idols.
